INZ’s residence business categories are as follows:

  • Entrepreneur Residence Category

  • Employees of Relocating Businesses Category

  • Global Impact Permanent Resident visa

  • Active Investor Plus Visa category

All of these options require you be of good health and character. Also, most require you to meet an English language requirement.

Entrepreneur

You have an Entrepreneur work visa and have successfully established a business in New Zealand as per your business plan, which is considered to have significantly benefited the country. You can apply for residence after being self-employed in the business for at least 2 years, or in some cases after six months if you invest at least NZ$500,000 in the business and create a minimum of three ongoing and sustainable full time jobs for New Zealand citizens or residents.

Employee of a Relocating Business

This is an opportunity for a key employee of a business which is relocating to New Zealand to obtain residence if he or she does not qualify under any other category.

GLOBAL IMPACT PERMANENT RESIDENCE

You have had a Global Impact work visa for at least 30 months and confirmation from your provider that they will continue to support you until your programme finishes.

ACTIVE INVESTOR PLUS

You have funds and/or assets of at least NZ$15 million, with proof it is legally owned. You agree to transfer funds in acceptable investments which are as follows : a minimum of NZ$1 million into listed equities or philanthropy; or a minimum of NZ$500,000 into managed funds; or a minimum of NZ$100,000 into direct investments; and the rests of the funds into holding investments and/or acceptable investments.


Temporary business visas

If you are granted a work visa under these categories you will have the opportunity to apply for residence in the future.

  • Entrepreneur work visa - this visa is aimed at experienced business people who can grow or establish high growth and innovative businesses with export potential in New Zealand. You require a minimum capital investment of $100,000, and a minimum of 120 points and a business plan specific to the proposed business that meets the requirements.

  • Global Impact work visa - this visa is aimed at innovative entrepreneurs, investors and start-up teams who wish to create and support innovation-based ventures in New Zealand. It may not be available in 2023.
